Who is Allister Brown?
Allister was born in Belfast on 1st August 1977 and has been drumming for the last 17 years. He is currently the only drummer from the UK to achieve a World Record for the Longest Drumming Marathon by an individual.
Allister started off learning percussion with the SEELB training centre playing in both senior concert band and orchestra before passing an audition to takeover the drumming role for Lysnagarvey Operatic. He has been playing many shows and pantomimes ever since not only for Lysnagarvey but with other companies to. Allister is also the drummer for up and coming Lisburn based band Universal Remedy who have played in many venues across Ireland over the last few years.
In 2003 Allister was presented with a challenge by the owner of the Lisburn School of Music Stephen McLaughlin to help celebrate the anniversary of the school being open. This challenge was of course to try and beat a Guinness World Record on the drums.
On Monday 8th September 2003 Allister started his attempt to break the record for the longest dumming marathon by an individual. At that time the record stood at 58 hours held by Russ Prager of USA. On Wednesday evening Allister with torn tendons in his arms and legs went on to beat the record by 17 minutes.
After a few weeks of verification it was confirmed by Guinness World Records that Allister was the new World Record Breaker of Individual drumming marathon of 58 hours and 17minutes.
It couldn`t have happened at a better time for him as later that month he was invited to join other record breakers at Tate Modern in London to sign the 100 millionth copy of the book to be printed. This later went on to be auctioned for Macmillan Cancer.
In January 2004 the record was broken again, this time by Indonesian Kunto Hartono, playing for a massive 72 hours.
In July 2004 more determined than ever Allister was in the Lisburn School of Music again for a second attempt. He started on Wednesday 21st July 2004 and played through to the Saturday beating the 72 hour mark and playing onto 78 hours. Allister had done it again for a second time . . . . . . . or so he thought!!!
There was a pending attempt being processed that Allister was unaware of which soon became the new World Record. 84 hours by Arulanantham Suresh Joachim in Belgium.
NEW WORLD RECORD - Link Logan from North Canton, Ohio started on Friday 27th June and played on to tuesday 1st July. This makes the record a staggering 86 hours and 30 minutes, yet to be verified by Guinness World Records.
